Counseling on Mindfulness
The objective of this event was to promote mental well-being, encourage mindfulness, and inspire the adoption of healthy habits and achievable goal-setting to help individuals manage change with confidence. And to encourage the students to have a meaningful insights into the importance of consistency and stability in life, while also addressing the common issue of anxiety.
Agenda:
The event began at 10:00 am with a prayer song. Prof. Ms. Geno Cinthia, Assistant Coordinator of the Department honored the Chief Guest with momento. Then Dr. V. A. Jane, Assistant Professor of the Department introduced the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Dr. Jeyaseelan. The Chief Guest addressed about value of consistency and stability in both personal and professional life. He spoke about how these two qualities are essential for long-term growth, success, and emotional balance. He also addressed the increasingly common issue of newness anxiety—the nervousness and fear that arise when encountering unfamiliar experiences such as starting a new job, joining a new institution, or adapting to a new environment. He reassured the audience that such anxiety is natural and can be managed effectively through mindfulness practices like deep breathing, grounding exercises, and staying focused on the present.
He encouraged everyone to set small, achievable goals, which help build confidence and reduce feelings of being overwhelmed. To support a well-balanced life, he also offered healthy lifestyle tips, including regular physical activity, nutritious eating, adequate rest, and maintaining positive social connections. His words inspired the audience to embrace change with courage, to view challenges as opportunities for growth, and to understand that while anxiety may be a part of new beginnings, it doesn’t have to control our response. Finally, the Treasurer of the Department delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest and everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
Outcome:
The event was a great success, featuring an engaging and relatable speech by the Chief Guest, Rev. Dr. Jeyaseelan. Students gained valuable insights into managing anxiety through mindfulness and healthy lifestyle practices. The session left them feeling motivated to face new challenges with confidence, and the message of embracing change, setting realistic goals, and prioritizing well-being made the event both impactful and meaningful.
