Tiruchirappalli, August 7: The Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, organized a special lecture on “Transformative Advances in Biotechnology: Applications and Future Directions” with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, under the CTEP programme.

The programme was headed by Rev. Fr. Dr. Paulraj Michael, SJ, Rector of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous). The event was organized under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Arockiasamy Xavier, SJ, Secretary, and Rev. Fr. Dr. K. Arockiam, SJ, Principal, of the College.

The programme brought together eminent experts from the fields of biotechnology, vector biology and biomedical research. Dr. S. Sagaya Satheesh, Head, Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli; Dr. A. Daniel Regan, Scientist–C, Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC), Puducherry; and Dr. Balaraman Madan, Scientist–G and Head, CSIR–Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai, delivered special lectures on various aspects of biotechnology.

The speakers highlighted the recent advances in biotechnology, emerging applications, technological innovations and future research directions. They also discussed the interdisciplinary applications of biotechnology in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, environmental sustainability, industrial biotechnology and biomedical research. The sessions provided students and young researchers with valuable insights into emerging research opportunities and the future scope of biotechnology.

The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, research scholars, faculty members, teachers and participants from various educational institutions. The interaction with eminent scientists provided the participants with an opportunity to gain current knowledge about developments in biotechnology and to explore potential avenues for academic and research pursuits.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. K. Chelladurai, Programme Coordinator, along with the organizing committee members of the Department of Botany. Their coordinated efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, resource persons, faculty members, organizers and participants for their valuable contributions towards the successful completion of the programme.
